Evangeline has confirmed that her costume fitting for the forthcoming Ant-Man and The Wasp has taken place in a new Twitter post. Lilly’s character, Hope Van Dyne, was well-received in the first Ant-Man movie despite the fact she never got to properly suit up as The Wasp – an identity first assumed by her mother. Happily, one of the movie’s post-credit scenes confirmed that Van Dyne would be fighting crime side-by-side with Scott Lang’s Ant-Man soon, using a prototype of her mother’s old costume.
As comic fans will know, the original incarnation of The Wasp is an integral part of Marvel lore that has been present in a variety of important stories and she’s also one of the founding members of the Avengers. However, also in the comic world, Hank Pym’s daughter Hope is better known as the villainous Red Queen and never takes over her mother’s Wasp mantle.
Fans eager for the sequel to Peyton Reed’s 2015 movie will be pleased to know that pre-production on Ant-Man and the Wasp is going well, with Lilly tweeting yesterday that her costume fitting had taken place and asking if the fans were as excited as she was. The post also contains a concept art piece for Lilly’s Wasp outfit:
The costume – different in design to the one showcased at the end of the first movie – is quite far from the original Wasp look and is essentially built to be a female version of Lang’s Ant-Man gear. Although this may not please Marvel purists, the look certainly makes sense in the context of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and does feature the classic Wasp wings that should make the character even more formidable than Lang, when suited up.
With Evangeline Lilly receiving joint billing in the Ant-Man sequel, fans can expect an increased role for her in the next movie. The two heroes work fantastically well together in the comic books and it’ll also be interesting to see a romantically involved couple attempt to work together as superheroes. Furthermore, the evolution of Lilly’s character from love interest to a superhero on equal footing with the main character is a refreshing change of gear, as such characters usually have to settle for a background role.
With that said, there’s perhaps a fairy decent chance that Hope won’t remain Ant-Man’s partner for long. As previously mentioned, Hope Van Dyne (or Pym in the comics) is traditionally associated as the Red Queen baddie and it’ll be very interesting to see if she’ll turn against Lang in either Ant-Man and the Wasp or in later MCU installments.

I have added two previews of the cover to our galleries, and hopefully we’ll have some outtakes from the photo session soon as well.
If anyone are able to scan the issue for us, we would really appriciate it! As I’m not from the US, I’ll most likely not be able to get a copy of it myself. Simply drop me an email to firstname.lastname@example.org – you’ll of course receive credit! Now, enjoy the awesome new Tauriel photos…

I am kind of prudish and I have very strict standards about how I present myself. But one of the things that I’ve always stood by is that women are beautiful and sexy. We shouldn’t be afraid of that. [But] we need to make sure that we present that beauty and that sexiness in a way that says we are in control of our bodies. We’re strong, we’re classy, we’re beautiful, powerful beings to be reckoned with, not victims.
